Best Wedding Present Ideas for Couples Who Just Enter Their New Home

When you have the task of buying a nice wedding present for a couple that has just started living together and are still settling into their new home, the best option would undoubtedly be something to make their new life together more comfortable, efficient and easier. That said, it’s not that difficult to find an ideal present for these two. Those of you seeking some fine ideas are welcome to read on.

1. Matching robes

This is definitely one of the best gifts that a young married couple can receive, especially if you get them the robes with their monograms as well. That way, they can match perfectly at their new home and cozy up together on those days and nights that they just want to cuddle and relax. You can do the same with towels and pajamas if you don’t think robes are their thing.

2. New bedding

Bedding is extremely important for everyone and especially for the married couple that just moved into their new home. And if they haven’t been living together before, the gift of new bedding can be a true lifesaver for them. Stocking up on bedding can get expensive, which is why it’s always appreciated to receive it as a gift. Make sure to choose a nice and soft material with stylish design.

3. Decorative bits and bobs

If the couple in question are your close friends, you probably already know their taste in decorating. This will allow you to pick the perfect gift for them. You can surprise them with trinkets that make one’s place a true home such as art, cushions, curtains, vases, candle sets, and so on. Even though there are plenty of options to choose from, things can get a bit overwhelming, which is why you should opt for this particular gift only if you’re absolutely certain that the couple will enjoy it 100%.

4. Electrical goods

You also have a ton of different gift possibilities when you want this wedding present to be a gadget or an appliance that will make the couple’s life easier. Some of the best electrical goods gifts include oil heaters with timers, lamps and electrical blankets, but appliances such as a coffee maker, toaster and an instant pot as well. You might also consider something more specific such as an ice cream or popcorn maker if you’re sure that the couple would love and really use something like this.

5. Cups, mugs, cutlery

Basically, you can never go wrong with giving a young married couple a set of essentials for their kitchen. This can be a set of plates, cups or mugs, a set of knives or maybe even good-quality cutlery. Pots and pans are also great if they’re really big on cooking. With so many modern designs and durable materials, you will definitely make the couple very happy.

6. High-end beverage

There’s something really special about filling your very own bar with drinks once you move to a new home, even when you’re not a big alcohol consumer. The act itself feels rather fulfilling and grownup, and being able to serve your guests with your own drinks from the bar is really fun. In that respect, you won’t make a mistake if you give the couple some kind of a high-end beverage to add to their bar collection. Whiskey and wine are common go-to’s in this case.

7. Furnit0ure

Again, if you’re someone close to the happy couple, you might want to splurge on the gift of furniture. Of course, you wouldn’t be buying them something over-the-top such as a bed or a wardrobe, but if you know their style, a dining room armoire or a china cabinet may be a rather effective addition to their new home and very helpful. Of course, you can surprise them with a gift card for the store that sells furniture if you’re not quite sure what to get.

It’s always nice and rewarding to surprise someone entering a completely new chapter in their life with a useful and thoughtful gift. That said, you can’t go wrong with any of the above-mentioned suggestions. And if the couple registers for the gifts, it will be even easier for you to find the perfect wedding present.

Transportation in IoT Era – 6 Ways Tech Can Improve Your Business

Before getting into advantages of IoT technology, let’s first define the term “Internet of Things”. It is a system of smart devices which use sensors, processors, or communication hardware to acquire and send all relevant data from the environment. They will collect data from living patterns in real-time to optimize and improve all aspects of living experience. For the transportation business, it means a lot! You’ll be able to track all your vehicles whenever you want. But, let’s go slowly. In this article, we will show you six ways of how IoT tech can improve your transportation business.

Track vehicle’s health

In the future, it will be essential to track a vehicle’s health in order to create maximum efficiency. On top of that, many cars will be driverless, so in that situation, you won’t have to worry about anything else other than a vehicle. This part of an IoT ecosystem will be getting regular real-time inspections through GPS vehicle tracking systems. The goal is to operate cars, boats, or buses to their full potential. If any problem occurs, sensors will notify drivers about the issue, as well as other vehicles on the road. Also, companies will be able to monitor fuel usage, speed, or vehicle’s age 24 hours per day. Because of that, manufacturers will be able to improve the quality and produce better vehicles continually.

Driver’s and pedestrians’ safety

Safety has always been the primary thing in the traffic, and it will be in the IoT ecosystem, of course. The idea in the future is that vehicles communicate with each other in real-time using data. Even though it seems weird, it will massively improve the safety of drivers (if the vehicle requires a driver), as well as pedestrians and passengers. Smart sensors on cars and buses will have the ability to alert other vehicles and traffic participants about potential road hazards, traffic delays, etc. According to the United States Department of Transportation, new IoT technology will reduce crashes on the road by 80%!

Logistics and geo-fencing

Geo-fencing is an IoT tool designed to improve logistics and make it a lot easier. Also, it doesn’t matter if you manage a small or large fleet of trucks, it is suitable for every business. How does it work? Can’t be more simple – logistics managers will always know if a large shipment or package is not on the right path anymore. Also, the supplier will be able to manage all massive supply chains from only one device! It will require only a few people to track and monitor a large number of shipments. Finally, geo-fencing can also prevent overcrowding. For instance, if it’s necessary, it can redirect vehicles to other directions in order to avoid school zones and quiet areas.

Finding the fastest route to the destination

IoT transportation technology will help us get faster to any destination. It is also pretty simple – real-time data on the traffic will be provided continuously. Therefore, we will be able to choose the best and fastest route quickly. The most important thing here is efficiency. Businesses will save both time and money, as well as fuel since you won’t choose the wrong route. According to INRIX, American commuters spend between 42 and 80 hours sitting in the traffic, which is a disaster. This number will massively drop with the implementation of IoT tech solutions.

Customer service

Customer service is an essential part of the business and it always will be. Logically, tech transportation improvements will also affect this area of business. You will continuously get precise information about all orders, and therefore, you will be able to inform customers about the exact time the delivery is going to arrive. Also, if something unexpected occurs, you’d be able to update your customers. Such super responsible behavior will create trust among your customers. They will be constantly informed and updated which will make them satisfied even if an unexpected delay happens.

Better organization of public transit

Even though the technology is continually improving, in many cities, we still don’t have consistent arrivals of buses and trains, which is often very frustrating. However, in an IoT ecosystem, with the help of real-time tracking tools, passengers will have exact information where their bus is at the moment. They will be able to travel with ease, without any uncertainty. How exactly is this going to work? Passengers will receive personalized travel information about potential delays or unexpected events. Based on that, they will have more options – either to wait a few minutes more or to go for another bus or train. The point is that passengers won’t have to guess the time of arrival anymore; every information will be super precise.

IoT will change every single aspect of our life. Transportation is one huge area where both businesses and customers will benefit massively because of new technology solutions.

Turn Your Home into Your Company’s Headquarters

Working from home is amazing, but setting up your own company at your home is even better. This requires quite a lot of planning, though, and figuring out how to do that. Most startups are started in their founders’ family homes, while some of them stay there in the future as well. Working and living at the same place means you won’t waste time commuting to your office, which is amazing! However, in order to turn your family home into your office space, you’ll need to spice it up a bit. Reorganizing it and making sure you’re able to work are two crucial issues, so take them into consideration first. If you’re thinking about this idea as well, here’s how to make your private space more corporate.

Reorganizing the space

If you’re about to start this process, keep in mind that there are two solutions you can opt for. On the one hand, you and your family can move out of your home and into a new space. This is where you’ll continue your life, and your old home can be easily converted into headquarters for your company. This sounds like a hard solution, but separating your private and personal life is actually quite simple. Mixing them together might not be that easy.

That’s the other alternative, of course, and it’s something people who can’t afford two homes have to consider. Instead of moving your family out of your home, you’ll be moving your business in. This means you’ll have to provide some corporate space, and the best way to go is dedicating an entire room to it. Having a spare room is amazing, but what if you don’t have one? You can move your kids from two separate rooms into one, which might end up being surprisingly beneficial. If that’s not possible either, tear down some walls, make your rooms smaller, and convert two big rooms into three smaller ones. That way, you’ll have enough space for your business without sacrificing your family’s peace of mind.

Explore unusual areas

The aforementioned ideas are all right when working alone or with just a few people, but what about bigger companies? If your business starts growing, you’ll have to hire more employees, and they require more space. That’s when spare rooms and other smaller spaces just aren’t enough, so you have to think outside the box.

Probably the most popular areas for all aspiring business owners are garages, basements, and attics. If these spaces are clean and well-organizing, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t use them. Moreover, all of those areas are spacious and can fit a number of people. Just get everything organized, purchase enough office desks and chairs, and start taking your company to the next level.

Establish some rules

One of the problems with working from home is getting properly focused on your work. Wandering around aimlessly, taking a nap, having a snack, or turning on the TV is easier than you can imagine. That’s why you have to establish a few rules and stay committed to your work as much as possible.

The same goes for your family as well. If you have kids, you’ll need to teach them how to behave and tell them what they need to do. You could separate your professional and personal spaces with those cool barn doors that are both protective and beautiful. These will make your headquarters better than ever, and that’s something all entrepreneurs want.

Protect your headquarters

Even if you live in a completely safe neighborhood, you should still be careful and protect your company’s headquarters. This is particularly important if your venture starts growing and you begin earning more money than before. This will attract potential thieves who might try to enter your home and steal valuable equipment. But, if you get organized, this doesn’t have to happen.

Start by installing CCTV around your home. This should stop most burglars because they don’t want to waste their time on a well-protected property they can’t enter. Also, think about getting a guard dog that will look after your home headquarters even when you’re out of town. Finally, don’t forget about cybercriminals and do whatever you can to protect your transactions against hackers. This is vital for every online business that deals with financial transactions over the Internet. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so update your security and make sure your work is absolutely safe and protected.

Turning your home into corporate space is never easy, but it’s not impossible. You just have to find a way to make it all work for your family and your work. Respecting everyone’s wishes is essential, so hear your family out before doing anything. This way, you can listen to their feedback and be able to create a better combination of private and personal space than ever.

Future Green Jobs You Should Consider as a Career Choice

The reason why a green job would make for such a great career choice is due to the fact that people tend to be getting eco-friendlier with each passing minute. This means that while the existing demand is quite formidable, it will most likely further grow in the future. Aside from this, in order for a job to constitute a great career option, it also needs to be financially lucrative. This means that there should either be a probability that you’ll advance in your field or a likelihood that you’ll start your own business once you gain enough experience and make enough contacts. With that in mind, here are seven career choices you should consider.

Environmental engineer

Due to the alteration in environmental laws and regulations, almost every company in construction, manufacturing or transportation needs to hire an environmental engineer. This alone means that there’s an incredible demand for professionals in this field. Other than this, the position itself is highly respected and the median annual wage is at a formidable $85,000 mark. All of this combined makes it a desirable job and an interesting career choice for anyone.

Wind turbine technician

Solar power is definitely not the only renewable source of energy out there, even though it is by far the most popular one. The power of wind is finally starting to get the recognition that it deserves. The majority of wind turbine technicians learn their trade at technical school but a specialized associate’s degree program for a wind turbine service technician usually takes two years to obtain. Keep in mind, nonetheless, that some of the most important secrets of the trade you’ll acquire through experience in the field.

Recycling worker

Another option is being a worker in the recycling industry. While it is true that working in the recycling industry does a lot to help our planet cope with its numerous pollution and resource shortage problems, the truth is that the job of a recycling worker usually isn’t that inviting or attractive. On the other hand, starting your own recycling business seems to be a great idea. Learning the business might take a while, which is why you might want some niche-experience as well as some education in the field of waste management.

Green construction

The construction industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world, as well as one of the fields that have the biggest environmental impact. Fortunately, the job of a civil engineer is becoming greener and greener every single day. This consists of several different aspects, ranging from green construction materials all the way to green building practices. For instance, the use of scaffolding in construction is much eco-friendlier than the use of cranes and work platforms, seeing as how it causes less soil vibration and doesn’t require fuel to run.

Solar photovoltaic installer

The first thing that crosses one’s mind when a green career choice is mentioned is most likely the job of a solar photovoltaic installer. While you are making the world a better place, one step at a time, this is a hard and arduous physical job, which is why it’s only for those who know where they’re heading. In time, you might start an installer business of your own. For the time being, keep in mind that once a person installs solar panels on their roof, the chances of their neighbors doing the same goes drastically up. Therefore, the impact that you’re making is even greater than it may seem at the moment.

Urban growing

There are a lot of people who have dreamt of leaving the city behind and going to the countryside in order to grow their own food and sell it on the farmer’s market. The main reason why they haven’t done that is that they think that it means leaving all the convenience of living in a major metropolitan area behind. However, what if we were to tell you that it’s possible for you to have your cake and eat it too? All that you have to do is get a couple of containers, free up some roof space and acquire all the necessary equipment for urban growing.

Water quality technician

Water is a substance that’s essential for our survival on this planet, however, when not used for drinking and personal hygiene, it’s crucial to our industry, agriculture and… well, everything else basically. This is why becoming a water quality technician is so appealing. Moreover, the job is incredibly interesting due to the fact that it requires elaborate testing and use of shade balls in areas where there’s a likelihood of drought. A similar situation happened with the reservoir Ivanhoe where about 96 million of these shade balls were dropped.

Conclusion

As you can see, the diversity of these career options can really help you find the career option that you’re looking for. Keep in mind, though, that your experience in this industry also depends on who you’re working with, as well as what kind of agency, institution or organization you’re working for. In other words, don’t be afraid to pivot if things don’t seem to be to your liking. You might be able to find what you’re looking for someplace else.

Top 7 Jobs Where You Can Help People

There are a lot of Australians who find helping others to be a high priority. They do their day jobs and use the money that they earn this way to help others by donating or funding certain organizations. Others wait for their day off in order to volunteer at a charity organization. However, what if you didn’t have to lead a double life? What if your main source of income was also in agreement with your life-long passion for helping others? For all those who have asked the same question, here are the top seven jobs where you can help people on a daily basis.

1. Counselor

There are many different ways in which counseling people can help them turn their life around. For instance, you can become a substance abuse counselor. You could also specialize in becoming a behavioral disorder counselor. Other than helping people with problems of these formats, you can also opt for becoming a career guidance counselor and help people figure out what they want from life. Either way, through education, you’ll acquire the knowledge necessary to help others. By honing these skills, you’ll drastically increase your ability to help them out.

2. Teacher

Pursuing a career in education is a noble call which is probably best described in Taylor Mali’s poem “What Teachers Make” (they make a difference). Skilled teachers can not only help one unlock their full potential but also help people develop a passion for learning, which is a trait that will benefit them throughout their life. Language teachers can help them peek into a whole new world of literature, jokes, wordplay and new contacts. Either way, regardless of the field you opt for, you’ll definitely be making a difference.

3. Healthcare

Working in the field of healthcare is one of the most upfront ways to help others. The best thing about it lies in the fact that there’s so much room for specialization. For instance, you can become a hospital nurse or a nurse that specializes in taking care of the elderly or people with special needs. The last two especially leave some room open for alternative employment options. For instance, you could look for work in retirement villages or find individuals who need your help. The demand for professionals is widespread and you can even narrow down your search to a luxurious retirement village in Central Coast.

4. Nutritionist

Being a nutritionist is about more than helping people lose weight. It’s about helping them learn how to improve their health on their own, as well as how to better understand their own nutrition habits. What you need to bear in mind is the fact that being a nutritionist is a job that requires constant self-improvement. This is because there are new studies emerging every year, as well as due to the fact that dietary supplements that are flooding the market are getting more and more numerous. Some of them are incredibly beneficial but it takes an expert to learn how to tell the good from the bad.

5. Personal trainer

Other than being a nutritionist, you can also help people by becoming a personal trainer. This, however, is not an easy thing. First of all, you need to understand that your own body is your own best self-promotion tool. Second, you need to learn a thing or two about warmup, safety, and recovery. This is the only way in which you can protect your clients and deliver reliable results. Finally, you need to become a psychologist and motivational speaker, at the same time. This is in order to help people give their very best.

6. Artist

Sometimes, the way in which you help others doesn’t have to be direct or conventional. Think about it, what people need after a hard day is a mental getaway and the best way for them to receive it is through art. This is why becoming an artist is one of the best ways to help, not just individuals, but humanity as a whole. Becoming a photographer, a writer, a musician or a designer has never been easier. This is due to the availability of online tools and platforms that specialize in these fields.

7. First responder

For those who need to see the immediate effects of their actions, those who want to do something more physical and those who aren’t afraid to risk their lives to help others, becoming a first responder is always an option. There’s nothing nobler than being a firefighter, an emergency medical responder or a police officer. Keep in mind, however, that this is only for those who have the strongest will and determination. Images that you see in the line of duty are not something that will leave you once you head home. Still, someone has to do it, so why not you?

Conclusion

At the end of the day, like with any other career choice, you have to choose what is best for you. This is why you have to be as honest as possible and try to understand your own needs and wants. Not everyone is built for the above-listed seven career paths. Fortunately, there’s plenty of other options out there for you to choose from, even if none of the above-discussed items suit you.

Why Finding A Full-Time Job Can Be So Difficult?

Photo by Alejandro Escamilla on Unsplash

The times are changing. It’s now becoming much more difficult to find a job, especially a full-time one. In fact, a study conducted last year showed that 50% of Australians aged between 15 and 25 years were not working full-time, and it’s taking around five years for students to find work following the completion of their studies. What’s strange about these statistics is that this generation is often considered the most educated, with more than 60% holding post-school qualifications. So why is it so difficult?

Promotion from within

For many businesses, promoting from within is often much more attractive than hiring external candidates. The biggest reason for this is that the business knows more about the employee as a worker, and the employee already has an understanding of the business culture and processes. This means they can spend less time on training if they hire from within. However, often this means there are only junior-level jobs available, some of which many job seekers will be overqualified for.

Issues with resumes

Companies and job websites generally use tracking systems that only forward on resumes that include certain keywords. 75% of resumes are actually rejected purely on this basis, meaning they’re never even seen by the hiring company. This means that following this process, only a handful will be brought in for an interview.

On top of this, many job seekers are relying on outdated resumes. Employers want something that stands out from the crowd and showcases the potential value of the employee to the company.

Tight selection criteria

Many companies are also becoming overly selective. Just a few decades ago, companies would hire candidates with the assumption that they would stay with the business for life and therefore would be happy to invest, both financially and educationally, in a junior candidate. However, now employees often flit from job to job throughout their career. Consequently, companies are less willing to invest the time or money into training or upskilling and are instead looking for immediate value for their business from highly skilled and qualified individuals.

Lack of vocational and practical experience

In a recent survey of 14,000 people aged between 15 and 25 years old, about three quarters of respondents said they didn’t believe they had the relevant practical work experience required for certain advertised job. The problem here though is that practical experience is often prioritized over educational qualifications; it becomes a chicken and egg scenario. An applicant’s educational requirements are meeting the job description but their practical experience is not. However, how are they actually going to get the practical experience if no one will hire them?

Are there even enough jobs?

Another reason why people are questioning their ability to get hired full time is simply a supply and demand issue. Are there enough jobs for the number of applicants? This is greatly affecting new graduates especially, perhaps because it has been shown that there has been a decline in the level of employment of new graduates. On top of this, more and more people are completing tertiary studies, meaning it’s possible that the market is flooded with junior level job seekers.

Alongside this comes competition. While previously graduates and junior-level job seekers were competing against only one or two years of tertiary leavers, now they’re competing against several years’ worth.

On top of this, many employers are actually looking to fill part-time, contract or even freelance positions, rather than offer full-time employment. “Full-time work is often difficult to find in certain industries where it is more attractive to employ part-timers. Employers are looking for innovative ways to reduce costs and make it easier to dismiss employees,” says David Alexander, Director of Student Services at The International Career Institute

Tips and tricks

Of course, there are several things you can do to land that dream full-time job you’re seeking.

  1. First, look at your resume and skillset from a manager or HR perspective. This doesn’t mean you should put skills on your resume you think they’re looking for or answering questions in the way you believe they want. It means looking at your strengths and weaknesses against the job description. What can you bring to the job that no one else can? Remember, you’re more likely to be hired if you can add value to the organization.
  2. Be persistent. Just because you don’t get the first job or even the sixth job doesn’t mean you won’t find anything. Job searches take time and some employers take weeks to fill a position. This is frustrating, but patience pays off.
  3. Revisit your resume and cover letter. Don’t send the same cover letter to each job application, and adjust your resume when necessary. Different employers will be looking for different things, so tailor your cover letter and resume to the unique opportunity.
  4. Check your digital footprint. In this day and age, our social media profiles, even if set on private, can be accessed to some degree. Make sure your digital footprint is clean and accurate. Do a search online for your full name to see whether you have been tagged by another company or friends in images. If they’re inappropriate, you can request to take them down.
  5. Get your foot in the door. Even a small job can make a world of difference. It may take time to build up to your dream job, so don’t expect it right out of the university gates. Remember, the first-ever female commander and pilot of a Space Shuttle, Eileen Collins, began her career as a part-time math teacher.
  6. Seek remote employment. If you live in an affordable city like Minneapolis, don’t be afraid to cross state lines when looking for jobs; remote work is out there if you search hard enough for it!

Finding any kind of employment can be tough, and finding a full-time job can be even tougher. The freelance economy is upon us and for the first time, less than 50% of employed Australians are in permanent full-time jobs. However, if you do want to secure full-time employment, there are still ways to get there. It’s just about being patient, creative and persistent.

How to Nail Your Small Business Branding

Do you believe that branding is only meant for large corporations and companies in the world? If your answer is yes, then you will be surprised to know that small businesses need branding just as much as the market leaders. However, you should also know how to get it right.

Remember- starting a small business is only the first step but you can take these additional steps to take your enterprise to the next level with branding:

1. Start with a Logo

One of the most important aspects of a brand is the logo- there is no question about it. You can study various examples like Coca-Cola, Nike, Apple, etc. All of them are considered top brands and they all have iconic logos. What this goes to show is that even if yours is a small and generic business, you can project it as a big and trustworthy brand by creating a unique logo.

2. Work on Your Relationship with Customers

You can’t build a brand without bolstering your bond with your customers. So, learn how to build strong customer relationships online and apply methods that can help them trust you more easily. These include improving your public messaging, becoming more accessible to the customers, and providing better customer service.

3. Use Social Media to Your Advantage

Social media provides you one of the most inexpensive ways to market your business. You can use it to connect to your target demographic and also open a channel for them to communicate with you i.e. share feedback and complaints. This can go a long way in establishing a brand.

4. Find Your Voice

Let’s say that you sell handcrafted wood furniture in a particular city. If you have competition, then how will you stand out? If all the businesses sell handcrafted furniture, then what makes you special? Well, branding is the answer.

By finding your unique voice, you can attract new customers easily no matter how crowded the marketplace is. There are various ways you can go about it too. For instance, you can create a brand that’s all about providing employment to the veterans, or you could be a brand that appeals to the college students who need affordable and long-lasting chairs, tables, etc.

5. Don’t Let Your Customers Down

Small businesses often take unethical measures to fight competition which is the opposite of what you want to do if you want to create a brand. For instance, some businesses start offering subpar products or ignore the complaints of their customers which only hurts their reputation.

Strong brands have strong customer bases because the customers take pride in being their patrons. That’s something which can only happen if you offer exceptional customer service and treat them with the best products that you can provide.

6. Never Take Your Eyes off the Target Demographic

As a business owner, you want as many customers as possible. However, you simply can’t sell to everyone. There is only a small portion of the market that you can target for your products/services. So, it’s important that your messaging, logo, slogan, etc. are appealing to the kind of individuals you want to focus on.

Brands are important to small businesses, and there is no way around it either if you want to maintain your market position. That said, the tips shared above are quite effective and proven to work. So, apply as many of them as possible and you will see a considerable rise in foot traffic/online traffic to your store/website. Good luck!

5 Inexpensive Ways to Market Your Business

Every business owner is always looking for two things: growing their business and saving money. It would be great if everyone simply came in and gave volunteer hours or 100 million people suddenly decided that they needed to buy your products.

Marketers are always trying to make sure they are at the top of their game and looking for new ways to improve their brand. Tactics are changing constantly and what may work one month isn’t going to work the next.

While you may never receive Shark Tank like exposure either, there are surefire ways where you can successfully grow and market your business without breaking the bank.

Social Media

Social media is king these days. People get their news from social media, communicate with one another and use their profiles to promote businesses and products.

The good news for you is that creating a social media page is 100% free. There’s no subscription service, up-front payment or money you have to commit. Making your business’ social media page is quite easy.

Now, you can do paid promotions for your business which are much cheaper than traditional advertising. With social media, you’ll want to make sure you’re consistently updating your page. That could be with photos, news on sales or links to your company’s website.

Just remember to keep it updated and fresh, so people won’t be trying to figure out if you’re still in business or not.

Networking

It’s a tale as old as time, but word of mouth and old-fashioned networking can do wonders for your business. You never know if that person at the convention, your neighbor or your friend’s cousin can help you or vice versa.

You don’t have to be that person who is whipping out their business card at every single minute, passing it around and making sure everyone knows who you are. You can be the kind and the cordial person who isn’t afraid to talk about themselves, up to a certain point.

Cross-Promotions

There are plenty of businesses out there who are direct competitors and others who can simply go together. Don’t you think the CEOs of Peanut Butter and Jelly love working together?

In all seriousness, cross-promotions are a great way to promote your business while helping others. If you run a tour business, you can put your information in local restaurants while you let them print their information in your tour packet.

Look for other business and workplaces that can offer you a symbiotic relationship. It also helps to have plenty of referrals out there as well!

Direct Emailing

Making a newsletter is a simple way to keep your customers involved in what is going on with any sales or promotions.

Just have customers give you their email address upon purchase or completion of services and voila! You’ve just found a surefire way to keep in contact with your customers for as long as you want.

Whether you may your newsletter weekly or monthly, make sure you’re consistent so you have constant feedback and outreach with existing customers and maybe even reach some new ones.

Need Storage Space for Your Business? Here Are 5 Ways to Create More!

Regardless of what kind of business you’re running, chances are that you need storage space. The problem lies in determining how much storage is enough. On the one hand, what you need is a big enough stock not to worry about the immediate future, however, there are some scenarios in which bulk offers on non-perishable items are so great that you can’t afford to miss out on them. This, nonetheless, means that you would need more storage space than you already have. Here are some of your options when it comes to this particular matter.

Outsourcing warehousing

The first option that you’ll have available would be to hire more storage space. The greatest benefit of this system lies in the fact that you pay only for the storage that you actively use, as well as in the fact that you don’t have to worry about the logistics. This option is quite scalable, seeing as how you can always pay for more. You don’t even have to go for a warehouse, seeing as how individual storage units (in shipping containers) can be just as effective. The issue of drop-shipping, however, is the ultimate form of outsourcing warehousing, as well as outsourcing delivery.

How much storage can you keep secure?

It’s not just about how much you can store, it’s also about how much you can keep safe. You see, due to the fact that employee theft is a serious concern in the warehouse business, what you need to keep in mind is the fact that a bigger staff means a greater liability. Also, a bigger inventory is a bigger target, which is why you need to think about your ability to invest in security. Warehouse security investments are always necessary but you also need to figure out how much is enough.

Better organization

Sometimes, you don’t need more space. Instead, what you need is a way to better use the space that you already have. First of all, you can do this by hiring a seasoned warehouse manager. Second, you can do it by investing in a warehouse management system (WMS). Finally, you can invest in training your staff and proper warehouse equipment. Adequate shelving and equipment like forklifts, trolleys and similar can make the job of handling your storage a lot more effective.

Home-based business

The next thing you need to think of when it comes to running a home-based business is the fact that you have so many options within your own home as well as on your property. For instance, while the majority of people immediately think about the basement as an ideal storage space, the fact is that the attic or the main floor room that’s optimized for storage can be just as effective. On the other hand, you can also start thinking outside the box (outside your home, to be more precise) and look for agencies like Best Sheds. A shed of proper size can be more than an adequate storage solution, both temporarily and in the long term.

Predictive analytics

You can also look to reduce your storage needs and the best way to do so is to learn a thing or two about your business. For instance, when expecting large offers, you can make large bulk orders, however, by not having to do this preemptively, you’ll manage your warehouse a lot more effectively. Other than this, knowing which items are best-sellers, which supplies are most used and which items are seldom ever required, you’ll already make a move in the right direction.

Automation

Previously, we’ve talked about the better use of your warehouse capacities. The first thing that this will do for you is to make you feel like you have a bigger staff than you really have. There are various ways in which you can achieve this, ranging from an investment in robotics all the way to the above-discussed purchase of a premium WMS license. Other than this, the more experienced your staff is, the greater efficiency in management you can expect. All in all, you have many different options.

Planning ahead

Keep in mind that the most important thing about the issue of storage is your ability to plan ahead. If you are nearing the peak of the season, you need to stock up in time. Also, predicting growth is incredibly important and it can do wonders for you logistically. Combining all of the above-listed methods is a great start to do so but while making your own plan, make sure to check which of these options are scalable. Moreover, some options handle your problems in the long run as well. For instance, when running a home-based business, a purchase of a large backyard shed is bound to satisfy your needs for good. Otherwise, you might have a similar problem in the future.

Conclusion

As you can see, with so many things going your way, it’s really not that hard to create a system that suits you the best. Furthermore, some of these methods require other skills and proficiency in other fields. Staff-management skills and spatial organization are just two of the most obvious examples. Overall, where there’s a will, there’s always a way and your issue with storage is the perfect example of this concept.

5 Tips for Hosting a Successful Small Business Event

Planning a small business event isn’t easy. Any missteps can hurt your mission and have serious repercussions for your company. On the other hand, if you get everything right, a festivity like this can help your operations in many ways. For example, it can help you attract investors or increase your base of loyal customers. But how exactly do you host a successful small business event? Listed below are five tips you might want to know about.

Know what you want to achieve

You’d be surprised by how many small business owners in Australia believe hosting an event is a great idea but when asked what their goals are, they can’t seem to find an answer. To make certain this isn’t the case with you, start thinking about what you want your event to achieve as soon as you decide to host it. Do you want to draw attention to your newest product? Do you need financing for your next project? Or you just want your Facebook page to start growing? Know what your goals are and coming up with the ideas that’ll make your event a success will be much easier. Fail to do this and your event will turn out to be nothing but a waste of money.

Don’t forget about money

Obviously, hosting a small business event can be expensive. Not only do you need to pay for a venue but there also other aspects of it such as catering and entertainment. That said, it’s very important to establish a budget and stick to it when planning the entire thing. Having a clearly-set budget will help you avoid overspending and ensure there’s always some money left just in case some unexpected costs come up. One trick that worked well for many business owners is breaking the budget into small pieces. You can then assign those pieces to every aspect of your event and make certain everything goes as planned. Of course, keep a record of all your costs so that you can later determine whether your event can be labeled as a success.

Think about catering

There’s no point in hosting a small business event if you’re not going to serve food and drink. Forget about catering and you’ll see your attendees leave even before you get to say everything you want. When it comes to choosing food for your event, it’s important to have in mind that people know have different diets and getting something for everyone if your safest bet. For example, you can never go wrong with adding a few vegetarian options on your menu. Sydney experts in corporate events say that serving alcohol at your gathering is a perfect way to have everyone enjoy it. Therefore, turning to experts who offer professional alcohol delivery service in Sydney can turn out to be a great idea.

Delegate some of the tasks

You may believe that you’re capable of planning your upcoming gathering yourself but in reality, letting others help you is a much better idea. Juggling too many things at once means you can’t pay attention to details and details matter a lot when it comes to small business events. Luckily, all you need to do is turn to your staff members and find ways to include them in the planning process. Think about each of your employees’ strengths and interests and you’ll be able to assign them the roles they’ll enjoy. For example, if there’s an employee you know has a good taste in music, why not have them create a playlist for your event? This will allow you to focus on more important aspects of the planning process and ensure everyone enjoys the music at your event.

Get the word out

Depending on the type of event you’re hosting, you might need to promote it if you want to achieve all your goals. The good news is, there doesn’t seem to be a lack of channels you can use to promote your event. So, if you aim at reaching customers who might want to attend your event, using social media is a must. All you need to do is create a Facebook event and have your followers share it with their friends and family. In case there are important clients you’d want to attend your gathering, sending them a carefully-written email invitation is always going to work. Just don’t forget to include a signature that’ll help them remember your business. For local businesses, channels such as newspaper and radio commercials are guaranteed to work as well.
